heading to the hottest places in the world
Deserts are some of most inhospitable places on the global but they can offer otherworldly scenes that will take you breath away - especially the change in colours as the sun cross the horizon. This fortnight’s edition of ‘The Sunrise Chaser’ is dedicated to all things sandy, from the African continent to the Arabian Peninsula, Australia to Argentina - the world is full of unique and majestic deserts.
After a brief hiatus in the last edition we’ll be back with the usual features including the sky chaser kit bag, stunning hotel recommendation and much more.
Once you’ve read this you’ll be sure to have some new spots on your bucket list.
predicting tip
Here is where I’ll share an additional or new tip to help with your sunrise and sunset chasing.
“Deserts often have flat, open horizons, meaning the sun stays visible for longer as it sets or rises.” - DW Around The World

Inspiration to improve your dedication
sky of the fortnight
Whilst I’ve not been to a desert in the last 14 days, what better way to kick off the desert edition than with the most famous desert of all. The Sahara Desert spreads across several countries in Africa and has long held a mystique for creatives worldwide. Here @nataliajoveer enjoyed a camel ride over the sand dunes in Morocco with beautiful pastel colours in the sky.
where to visit?
Whilst the Sahara might be world’s most famous desert, a lesser well known one is the Atacama Desert in Chile. Join Romy from Brunette at Sunset to discover the incredible experiences and breathtaking landscape of this desert here. Highlights include hot springs, salt lakes and, of course, a sunset at Valle de Luna.
out the window
Whenever I travel somewhere I am often looking for places to stay that have a unique or mind-blowing view.
I don’t know about your, but in the past few months my social feeds have been filled with epic content of Namibia. Shooting up my ‘must visit list’ this country has sweeping landscapes that will capture the soul. Waking up in the luxury of the Onduli Ridge hotel situated in Damaraland which is a semi-desert within the African nation. Check out the scene below from @terplanet and take a moment to get your breath back.

Each fortnight I’ll scour Klook to find interesting sunrise and sunset experiences you might be keen to try on your next trip.
First up, if you’re going to Australia then a trip to Uluṟu is a must. The most majestic spot in the whole country comes alive at sunrise. This half day tour takes in the world famous rock and the nearby Kata Tjuṯa.
Or if you’re in Peru then this epic looking trip to Huacachina desert oasis with sand boarding will provide both the thrilsl and the views.
If you’re looking for something unique on your travels check out the site, plus if you use the code DWAROUNDTHEWORLDKLOOK at check out you’ll get a handy 10% off of these and almost all over things on the site.
bucket list
Sunrise and sunset spots from around the world I’m desperate to visit. Drop me an email (reply to this) to share your favourites for the chance to be featured. This is also a great way for me to highlight other wonderful creators you may want to follow.
sunrise spot
Sunrise tours are becoming more and more popular, unique experiences to see in the morning are a great way to make some memories. In Dubai, UAE you can enjoy a horse ride across the desert during daybreak. See how @emmacarter.x got on below.
sunset spot
This is one of mine! I got to visit Qatar a few years ago and a sunset visit to the desert was a must do whilst in the country. During a day trip from capital Doha we ended with sundowners at the incredible East-West/West-East sculpture in Zekreet. It’s unlike anything else you’ll have seen before.
blame it on the moon
Get ready for some March moonrise madness around the 14th of the month. In Sydney, Australia rising time is almost exactly at sunset time which should be an interesting sight - providing there are no clouds. To find out what time it’ll be for you this website is my go to.
Where is your favourite desert in the world. Head over to Instagram to drop me a DM and tell me all about it.
Until next time, happy sandy sky chasing.
