make this the first or last thing you do with your day
You may have seen TikTok and Instagram awash with people doing these exhausting hikes to some incredible views. One experience that is a must when visiting anywhere new is to experience the place’s sunrise or sunset, and one popular way to do this is with a hike.
You’ll maybe remember that one tip for sunrise and sunset chasing is a location high up - often this is the case with places on these types of hikes.
So this fortnight, ‘The Sunrise Chaser’ will celebrate some of the best hikes you can do around the world to take you to some mind blowing views. Tie up your laces, pull your socks up and strap on that backpack.
predicting tip
Here is where I’ll share an additional or new tip to help with your sunrise and sunset chasing.

sky of the fortnight
Whilst this isn’t tied into the theme of the newsletter, I had to share the gorgeous Hunter’s Moon that took place this week in Sydney. Seen around the world, this was one of the several supermoons this year.
where to visit?
Something a little different to kick off the sunrise hike suggestions, these seven tips from Explore Mag which will help you prepare for your first hike of this kind at that time of the morning.
It covers how to not only physically prepare, but often more important, how to mentally prepare. Plus it shouts out our favourite sky chasing app (iykyk).
Check these tips out here.
out the window
Whenever I travel somewhere I am often looking for places to stay that have a unique or mind-blowing view.
You’ll have to bring your own accommodation for this one, but some sunrise hikes will include an overnight stay so that you wake up for daybreak (rather than trekking through the dark). @renee.roaming experienced the Enchantments Trail in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in Washington, USA waking up to a mind-blowing view.
sky chaser kit bag
Items that can help you be a better sky chaser.
This one is personal. I purchased this bag only this week and I’m already obsessed. The sustainable brand Cotopaxi makes these incredible backpacks which come in a one of a kind colour-ways made from ‘leftover’ materials - you can have the option to order a ‘surprise’ so you won’t know what yours will look like until you get it delivered. This, imo, adds to the beauty of purchasing this bag. I got the Allpa 28L Del Día, which is perfect for a few days away.
Check out this beauty here.
bucket list
Sunrise and sunset spots from around the world I’m desperate to visit. Drop me an email (reply to this) to share your favourites for the chance to be featured. This is also a great way for me to highlight other wonderful creators you may want to follow.
sunrise spot
Roy's Peak hike in Wanaka, New Zealand, is widely regarded as a bucket list item anyway, but at sunrise the view from the summit is incredible. Check out the clips below from @explorewithnic who was treated to the most majestic of view on her early morning jaunt.
sunset spot
This one isn’t for the faint hearted, but the narrow PR1 Hike, Stairway to Heaven on the beautiful island of Madeira, Portugal is one that your won’t forget very easily. Wonderfully captured by @s.x.traveler below.
blame it on the moon
The next full moon will be on 16th November, as always visit this website, as the best day for moonrise watching will vary depending on where you are in the world. Something else - the days just before or after the full moon can offer equally stunning views.
Where is your favourite sunrise or sunset hike? Drop me a DM on Instagram as I love to hear your your favourite sunrise and sunset spots (especially if there include a hike).
Until next time, happy sky chase hiking
